Selection
Policy 2002/2003 season

The
selection events for the team selection for 2003 Wild Water Racing Team
for the World Cup Series and European Championship are the following:
-
Avonmore
(Start 2k downstream from Rathdrum to road bridge above the meetings, approx.
18mins).
-
Aughrim
(Aughrim town to the yellow bridge approx. 10mins).
-
Aghade
(Below the first drop to usual finish, approx. 2½
mins)
-
Paddlers
will have to apply in writing/email to the secretary before January 10th
2003, if they wish to be considered for selection.

A
policy of percentages will be applied to the above three events and the
following criteria apply for Irish Team Selection. The
percentage will be based on the leading senior men’s kayak race time.

Senior Kayak 107%

Men’s
Junior Kayak 115%

Men’s
Senior C2 115%

Womens
Senior Kayak 120%

Womens
Junior Kayak 120%

Mens
Senior C1 120%

A
points system will be used to rank the paddlers that have made the criteria
for selection. The National
Ranking points system will be used i.e. 1st =100 points, 2nd
=99 points etc.

Only
paddlers who are current affiliated members of the Irish Canoe Union (or
CANI) are eligible for selection. Paddlers may be individual members of
the ICU, or must be paid-up members of an affiliated club. They
must have a valid Irish Passport or have lived in Ireland for six months
prior to their selection.
·Persons
selected for international competitions must compete in both the classic
and the sprint events.

Selected
paddlers will have to participate fully in squad sessions.
·The
committee reserves the right to give the final decision on selection.

The
Committee has the final decision on the selection of paddlers for the international
team selection regardless of performance, and may make their decision based
on the paddlers behaviour and commitment.

All
squad and team members must sign and abide by the committees code of conduct
prior to travelling.
