Mark Flanagan, DSP Research Group, Dept of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University College dublin Title: "Factor Graph Theory: A New Tool for Communication Receiver Design" This Seminar is sponsored by the IEEE UKRI Communications and Control Joint Chapter Abstract: The theory of factor graphs provides a powerful and elegant unification of many algorithms in communications and signal processing. Prominent among these are the decoding algorithms for turbo and LDPC codes, which are near-Shannon-capacity achieving codes. This talk will introduce the factor graph framework, and attempt to show how it may be used in the design of communication receivers. Turbo decoding, LDPC decoding and turbo equalization will be examined as illustrative special cases.
