Personal Info: John Ringwood currently leads the Center for Ocean Energy Research and is a Professor in the Dept. of Electronic Engineering. His background is in control systems, since completing his PhD in the area of control systems for steel rolling mills. He has covered a wide variety of application areas, including physiology and exercise physiology, food/bio processing systems, semiconductor manufacture, robotics, power converters and horticulture cultivation, from a mathematical modelling and control perspective. He has also studied the forecasting problem for electricity consumption in depth and been associated with a few exotic applications such an temperature estimation in plasma rocket engines and enviromental control for mushroom growing modules on spacecraft. John has been involved in wave energy since 2001 and is interested in most aspects of wave and ocean energy, including resource assessment and quantification, device modelling, technical and economic optimisation and, of course, control systems for optimal energy capture!
