Personal Info:
Iain completed a Double Honours degree in Experimental and Mathematical Physics in 2009 from NUIM. For his final year project he monitored the carbon dioxide levels in a small commuter town near to a more industrialised city, and successfully showed a strong correlation between both wind direction and time of day with the carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere around the commuter town. During his time as an undergrad in NUIM, Iain also participated in a student internship programme where he investigated and compared the performance of two different water heating solar collector systems, under the guidance of Dr. Michael Cawley.
Iain began his PhD in ITT Dublin in 2009, where his work is focused on investigating and optimising the performance of wave makers to improve the testing conditions in wave tanks. In October 2011 Iain moved his project to NUIM, joining the COER team to work with Prof. John Ringwood and Dr. Ronan Costello for the completion of his PhD. Iain's research interests involve a broad range of fluid dynamic topics, including wave/structure interaction, fluid measurement systems such as particle image velocimetry (PIV), CFD, internal combustion engines, turbulence and hydraulics.
Iain also works with Omeylabs on the development of a commercial wave tank test facility which is due to become available by the end of 2012.
