The Department of Electronic Engineering is one with a vibrant social side. Interactment between both students from different years and with lecturers is encouraged and facilitiated. Throughout the year there are many social activites organised. There is the annual table quiz and pool competiton and in the summer is the department Barbequeue. This bustling social scene is not only applicable to our department, the college has a very active Students Union which plays a big part in the orgainistion of student social activities
NUI Maynoooth has plenty to offer its students outside of their studies. There are currently 36 Sports Clubs and 49 Societies for you to choose from. These give you the opportunity to make new friends while developing your interest and skills in a particular area. There is a purpose built gym, which is free to registered students. The recently opened all weather pitch is used for soccer, gaelic and hockey as well as numerous other playing fields. There is also an indoor swimming pool and tennis courts. There are also number of cafés, restaurants and student shops on the campus.
The Students’ Union is the representative body of the Students and also provides a number of support services. The recently renovated, SU Bar and Venue is the hub of socialising in the University. The SU, along with the Clubs and Socs on campus, run Events every night from live gigs to table quizzes. The SU run bar-extensions throughout the year with live acts and a late bar. The Venue has been home to some of Ireland's greatest acts such as Damien Rice, Aslan, the Revs and the Hot House Flowers. More recently Duke Special and Paddy Casey have played here. “The Spoke”, the Student Union magazine, is published on a monthly basis. For more information on NUIM Students Union click here.
Maynooth is very much a student town undergoing major transformation. There are a wide range of cafés, restaurants, bars and also major supermarket chains. There are a great number of amenities in the local area from canal walks to pitch and putt and horse riding.
